Feedback and Minor Polishing Update!
Thank you once again for trying out Ouro. This Jam was a proof of concept for creating a snake-based puzzle game with restricted movement. If you would like to see more of this type of game, please tell us your interest in the comments and leave us a rating.
Players can enjoy a smoother experience thanks to the fixes, tweaks, and features added to this build!
Features:
Damage Indicator: Thanks to your feedback (and additional time!) we have implemented a better method to communicate Ouro getting hurt by lava. She will now flash red when any part of her is in contact with lava, and we have given you some time to adjust and recover.
Tweaks:
Invisible Walls Everywhere: The player is no longer forced to the "intended" path. Because we have implemented a better system that communicates why Ouro is getting harmed and gives players more time to react with casual gameplay in mind, we have adapted the game to allow for solving the puzzle your own way. Get creative!
Lava Spills: The lava pool has been lowered to help aid in a more casual experience, and allows the player to tighten up Ouro a little more before hitting the lava.
Fruit Path: Adjusted the positioning of the fruits in a path that helps communicate Ouro's stretching and latching abilities.
Roomier Mountains: The play area in the middle section of the mountain has been expanded to allow more freedom of movement while still retaining the bounds needed to help expand Ouro.
Bad to the Bone: Added a fossilized spine on the mountain to better communicate boundaries.
Put the what where? Adjusted important puzzle elements to stand out more in contrast.
Draining Lava: The lava now drains with animation when the puzzle is solved!
Input Interaction: For accessibility purposes, we have adjusted the grabbing ability to be used by pressing E on your keyboard.
Don't Explode! (As Much): Ouro now grows one link at a time after eating fruit. This is to help better communicate to the player visually what is happening, and ensure Ouro doesn't clip through geometry and soft lock the player. However, you will still occasionally explode up in the air! Think of this as a happy little accident (we don't plan on fixing in this project lol) Overall, Ouro will be controllable throughout the game, sometimes she will just fly up in the air for fun after finding a fruit!
Text Adjustments: Adapted the text to accommodate for the new input interaction, and also add a little more mystery in solving the puzzle without providing context.
Fixes:
Insane Shaking Snake Parts: Ouro has had a little less caffeine since this last build. Adjusted physics timings to accommodate a smoother experience.
Do you know how a wheel works?: Updated the snapping method to properly align the wheel into the peg.
